A motion-picture show was adapted by Thompson from either his stage play & was directed by Mark Rydell, who was too directing the stage play, The West Side Waltz, in which Hepburn as well performed that month. Ernest Thompson received an Academy Award in 1981 for his work.

It won Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Henry Fonda), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Katharine Hepburn) and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium. It was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Jane Fonda), Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Music, Original Score, Best Picture and Best Sound.

Prior to becoming required using this film, despite their numerous most common acquaintances & hanker careers in the motion-picture show, Henry Fonda & Hepburn experienced never met. A film was mass produced in Squam Lake, in central New Hampshire.

Inside 2001, CBS aired a survive television adaptation of In Golden Pond, which was heavy publicized in the click, principally due to the reunion of previous Sound of Music stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
